Biography.
Beware of Crimson Peak. Not a day since her mother passed of Black cholera did the spirit return to her bedside that very same night, whispering those very words. Edith was only ten years old when she encountered a spirit for the first time. The daughter of wealthy entrepreneur Carter Cushing, Edith is an aspiring author who initially struggles to make headway with her novel being in need of a "love story."She meets the English baronet Sir Thomas Sharpe, who has come to Buffalo with his sister Lucille to seek investors to his machine that operates with clay. He has a meeting with Carter Crushing and other businessmen, but Carter refuses to invest in his invention. Carter, along with Edith's childhood friend Alan McMichael, hold their suspicions and advise against getting too close to the Sharpes. Quite quickly does Edith fall in love with Thomas, however, and not long after Carter attempts to separate the two is he murdered under mysterious circumstances.
Edith marries Thomas and moves to England with him and his sister. When she arrives at Allerdale Hall, it isn't quite what Edith expects. Her first night in her new home is cold, quiet, and relatively alone, but soon Edith finds that far more troubles lie beyond Thomas' attempts to harvest the red clay embedded deep in the soil of their land.Edith begins to notice spirits attempting to reach out to her - one first during a bath, another as she tries to find sleep - and expresses her fears to Thomas and Lucille, who are very quick to brush it off. Edith suspects something is amiss as she begins to grow ill, coughing up blood. She attempts to reach out to the spirits haunting her, to which they lead her to uncover the horrible secrets about the Sharpe siblings. She learns of the ongoing incestuous relationship between the two, and that they had murdered their mother because of it. Edith is trapped in their ongoing plot to marry Thomas off to women and then killing them, gaining wealth in the inheritance. Alan, having also learned about the Sharpes, rushes to Allerdale Hall with worry for Edith and is attacked by both Lucille and Thomas.
